Sonesta International Hotels Corporation, a hotel operator under the RMR Group headquartered in Newton, Massachusetts, recently completed the acquisition process of Red Lion Hotels Corporation.
Red Lion Hotels is a hotel franchise network operator based in Denver, Colorado. It was not clear how much the acquisition cost was, but the corporate action made Sonesta one of the largest hotel companies in the world.
At least currently Sonesta operates 15 hotel brands spread across 1,200 locations, such as the US, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Egypt, Peru, and St. Maarten, with more than 100,000 rooms on offer.
The hotel brands, including Royal Sonesta, Sonesta Hotels and Resorts, Sonesta Select, Sonesta Suites, Sonesta Simply Suites, Sonesta Cruise Collection Nile River, and Red Lion Hotels, RL Hotel, Signature, Americas Best Value Inn, and Canadas Best Value Inn.
“The closure of the Red Lion Hotel transaction is a transformation for Sonesta. This makes Sonesta one of the largest hotel companies in the world, both as owner, manager and franchisor,” said Carlos Flores, President and Chief Executive Officer of Sonesta, Wednesday (17/3).
After the acquisition, Sonesta appointed with Keith Pierce, a veteran with 35 years of experience in the hotel industry, to join as executive vice president and president of franchise and development of the company. Meanwhile, John J. Russell Jr., CEO of Red Lion Hotels, will support the leadership transition until April 30.
